For example, Cheryl Craft, of Pasadena, president of the Los Angeles Founder Chapter of ARCS (Achievement Rewards for College Scientists) sends word that ARCS Foundation received a whopping $2.76 million donation, in December, from Elizabeth and Frank Whiting’s Golden West Foundation. A Pasadena resident and devoted member of ARCS, Elizabeth “Betty” Whiting tragically died in 2002.
Since its inception in 1958, ARCS has awarded more than $84 million to over 14,000 scholars. Of that amount, the L.A. chapter has awarded over $22 million in scholarship funds, to Southern California institutions including Caltech, Harvey Mudd, Pomona, UCLA Brain Research Institute, USC’s Keck School of Medicine, and Viterbi School of Engineering.
