Why Do Scholar Alums Give?

ARCS Scholar alums pay it forward by providing support for the next group of promising science and engineering graduate and undergraduate students. When giving to the ARCS Scholar Award Fund, you can know that 100 percent of your contribution supports a student without deductions for administrative overhead. Scholar awards are an essential recruiting tool for the best students in the nation to a university in our area. There our ARCS Scholars enhance programs in their chosen field, and through networking and mentorships, are encouraged to remain in the area after they receive their degrees, thereby continuing to contribute to the community.

An Underwriting Opportunity

Los Angeles Founder Chapter gratefully accepts underwriting. The highlight event of our year is the Scholar Awards Luncheon, held in November 4, 2016, and our Spring Gala, April 30, 2017. At the ARCS SRL the ARCS scholars receive their scholar award, and it’s an opportunity for donors, guests and Chapter members to meet with the scholars and university faculty. It’s a prestigious gathering, always well attended. The Spring Gala is an opportunity for members and donors to recognize an outstanding individual, family or organization that has significantly helped ARCS Los Angeles Founder Chapter achieve our mission.

"Thank you for your generous financial support towards my higher education.  I am investigating the neural basis of language learning in the infant brain.  To do this, I use neuroimaging techniques to examine the functional and structural connectivity of the developing brain.  Ultimately, I plan to pursue a career in academia to become a leading professor in my field.  In the world of academic research, the quest to secure funding is a constant struggle.  The ARCS Foundation has alleviated that burden for me and made it possible for me to pursue my passions in scientific research.  Thanks to you, I am able to devote more time to my research and focus on what I love to do."

Thanks from Scholar Cassandra Meyer, Graduate Student at University of California, Los Angeles

"Thank you for your generous support.  I was incredibly excited to learn that I was selected as the recipient of your award.  With your donation you have given me the opportunity to explore my questions further and develop my research in new ways.  Your generosity is inspirational and I hope that in the future I will be able to help students reach their goals as you have."

Thanks from Erick Moen, Graduate Student at University of Southern California

"Becoming an ARCS Scholar truly changed my graduate career.  It gave me the opportunity to connect with my current advisor, Dr. Andrea Armani, and the freedom to focus on expanding my research.  My work is very multi-dimensional, spanning topics ranging from nonlinear optics to biology to virtual reality.  These types of investigations require collaborations across disparate departments and are very difficult to complete without external support.  Recently, because of this research, I was named one of the top five PhD students in the Electrical Engineering department at USC, the only American this tear to receive the honor.  As a result of this award, I will have a leadership role within the department, encourage students and be a resource for expanding innovation.  It is a powerful illustration of the influence the ARCS Foundation has on its scholars."
